The Parents’ Council works with the Board of Management, Principal, Deputy Principal, staff and students to build effective co-operation and partnership between home and school and the local community. The Parents’ Council promotes the role of parents/guardians as the prime educators of their children and the importance of the role and responsibility of GCCD as their preferred mainstream co-education all-Irish secondary school.

All parents of children enrolled in the school are automatically members of the Parents’ Council and are welcome to attend the monthly meeting.  . Parents elect Officers of the Council at the Annual General Meeting each year. The Council is organized so that its structure reflects the organization of the school and every class group/year is represented by parents/guardians on the Council.  The Council meets on the second Monday every month over the academic year, for one hour, and meetings are supported by an agenda and minutes and any other relevant documentation.

The Council has an important role in school development planning. It consults parents/guardians in discussions on school policies and procedures. The Council assists in a variety of activities such as organising the Mock Interviews Evening for 6th years;  Study Skills Seminars and various information and training nights on topics such as Cyber-Safety Nutrition, Stress Management, Parenting Skills. The Council is actively involved in the School Book Rental Scheme which gives huge financial benefit to families.  This year, the Council is working with Gael-Choláiste Chill Dara staff and students, Gaelscoil Nás na Ríogh and the Naas Twinning Group to organize events to commemorate the 1916 Rising.

The Council organises the annual Voluntary Contribution Re quest and Students’ Personal Accident Insurance Schemes. It organises fund-raisers such as bag packs and raffles. This helps finance resources and supplies such  such as the cost of replacing the school bus, fold-up benches & tables,, IT resources, , garden furniture and external landscaping.

The Parents’ Council can be contacted by writing to the Chairperson of the Parents’ Council at the school address or by email at eolas@gccd.ie.
