GCCD/Rith 2010

Rith

I ndiaidh bliana na míonna d'ullmhúcháin bhí lá stairiúil sa chontae Dé hAoine 12 Márta nuair a rith na sluaite chun ár dteanga dúchais a cheiliúradh.  Thosaigh an céiliúradh ag 8.30 ar maidin nuair a sheinn ár ngrúpa trad nua ag an oscailt in Óstán Killashee. Shroich an bata lucht bliain a sé ag a 11 nuair a rith siad ó Finlays go dtí an Bóthar Glas, bhuail siad le Gaelscoil Chill Dara agus Gaelscoil Phort Laoise ansin agus tháinig an bata ar ais chugainn ag an gCurrach.  Rith gach dalta sa scoil ciliméadar ar a laghad agus rith an fórmhór acu neart ciliméadar.  Bhain siad an-taitneamh as an lá, thuig siad an coincheap agus bhí siad ag iarraidh an teanga a cheiliúradh.

Ní leor an lá sin do chuid acu áfach, mar sin d'imigh Daithí agus Clár Dé Máirt le daréag sa bhus chun bualadh leis an Rith i nGaillimh.  Bhí 37 dalta as an gcéad agus an dara bliain ag iarraidh dul leo, rud a chuireann gliondar orainn.  Dar leis na múinteoir ba cheann de na turais ab thaitneamhaí a bhí ann, buíochas do na daltaí as a ndea-iompar agus a spiorad láidir Gaelach.  Bhí siad mar an dream deireanach leis an Rith i bParáid na Gaillimhe Lá Fhéile Pádraig agus bhí siad i láthair nuair a léigh Seán Ó Cuirreáin, An Coimisinéír Teanga, Teachtaireacht an Uachtaráin a bhí sa bhata ar feadh 9 lá.  Cloisim go raibh neart greasánú déanta ag cuid de na daltaí agus go bhfuil taithí oibre eagraithe acu le Rith 2012.

Ba mhaith linn buíochas croíúil a ghabháil libh ar fad as tacaíocht a thabhairt don cheiliúradh úrnua seo.

Mar iatán le seo tá físeán beag de Rith in oirthear Chorcaí, i lár na tuaithe, beirt ag seinm ceoil ar thaobh an bhóthair chun fáilte a chur roimh Rith, coinnígí súil amach do bhus GCCD!!!

Beidh Rith 2012 ar ais i gCill Dara Dé Máirt 13 Márta 2012 agus muid ag súil go mór leis.

After months of preparation we had an historical day in the county on Friday 12 March when crowds took to the streets to celebrate our national language. The celebration started at 8.30 in the morning when our new trad group played at the official opening at the Killashee hotel.  The baton reached our 6th yrs at 11am and they ran from Finlays to the Green Road where they met Gaelscoil Chill Dara and Gaelscoil Phort Laoise and the baton returned to us at the Curragh.  Every student in the school ran a kilometre, at least, with the majority running a lot more.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, they understood the concept and wanted to celebrate the Irish language.

One day was not enough for some of the students, so Clár and Daithí left on Tuesday with 12 students to join Rith in Galway for the St.Patrick's Parade where the Coimisinéar Teanga, Seán Ó Cuirreáin read the President's message of hope for the Irish language. 37 students from first and second year wanted to go and according to the teachers it was one of the most enjoyable tours, thanks to the students, their behaviour and their Gaelach spirit.  I believe that some students networked during the festival and that they have TY work experience organised with Rith 2012.

A hearty thanks to you all for supporting this new festival.

Attached here is a small video from west Cork, in the middle of the country, two lads playing music at the side of the road as they welcome Rith,  watch out for the GCCD bus!!!!

Rith 2012 will be back in Kildare on Tuesday 13 March 2012 and we are looking forward to the celebrations.
